Coven Japan is a prominent heavy metal band hailing from Tokyo, established in 2016 by the skilled guitarist Akihiro Ito, known for his work with Fastkill, and the powerful vocalist Taka. Their distinctive sound is deeply influenced by the New Wave of British Heavy Metal and iconic 1980s metal bands such as Angel Witch and Mercyful Fate, while seamlessly integrating elements of 70s hard rock and traditional Japanese music. The band’s lyrics, penned in both English and classical Japanese, poignantly reflect their rich cultural heritage. Their notable releases include the debut EP The Advent, released in 2017 through Finland’s Svart Records, which solidified their foothold in the metal scene, and their first full-length album Earthlings, released in 2023, expertly mixed and mastered by Olof Wikstrand of the Swedish band Enforcer, featuring standout tracks like Land of the Rising Sun and What Goes Around Comes Around.
