TsuShiMaMiRe

TsuShiMaMiRe is an all-female art punk rock trio that emerged in 1999 from Chiba, Japan. Their name is a clever fusion of the members’ names: Tsushima (Yayoi Tsushima on bass), Shi (Mari Kono providing vocals and guitar), and Masuda (Mizue Masuda, the original drummer), with “Mamire” signifying “covered with” in Japanese. The band’s sound is an inventive amalgamation of punk rock, alternative rock, and art punk, drawing from a diverse array of genres including punk, rock ‘n’ roll, funk, metal, rap, ska, bossa nova, and samba. Their lyrics delve into themes of food, love, and the nuances of daily life, all expressed with a vibrant and whimsical energy.
