Pinky Donna / PP Donna
Pinky Donna is a vibrant all-female rock ‘n’ roll band from Sapporo known for their electrifying performances and distinctive fusion of punk rock with Japanese pop influences. Since their inception in June 2019 as a trio of university clubmates—guitarist Nanako, bassist Nariyu, and drummer Yui—the band welcomed vocalist OK! Sakurako into the lineup in November 2019, completing their original formation. Pinky Donna’s sound artfully blends the raw energy of classic punk rock with contemporary Japanese pop sensibilities, delivering a powerful collection of rock ‘n’ roll tracks. Recently reformed as PP Donna, a three-piece group, they embarked on this new journey following OK! Sakurako’s hiatus in May 2024, with Nanako Jet Baby stepping up to lead vocals. This transition has enabled the band to delve into new musical territories while showcasing a mix of original Pinky Donna songs and fresh material unique to the trio. They have introduced innovative elements, such as tuning their instruments to 436Hz and modifying their stage makeup, to differentiate their identity from Pinky Donna. Maintaining the energetic punk rock essence, PP Donna incorporates diverse influences and styles, which was exemplified during a July 2024 performance when bassist Nariyu faced health challenges, prompting a quick response from Mizuyoshi Aniki of TANK HEADS to support on bass, alongside the guest appearance of Zorome from Wasurete Motels during “Dengeki Love,” culminating in an unforgettable live experience.
